Evyn's new 'toy'

(Does it still count as stealing, if I take something that I bought?)

A package arrived earlier this week for Evyn - a new, real, grown-up camera!

We've been wanting to get her one for a while now, but we were finally inspired to place the order after my own camera unexpectedly failed us on several occasions.   So we are the proud owners of a new Canon Powershot D10 .  This isn't just a camera, it's a waterproof camera.  Which, apparently, is as enticing to a 7-year-old as it is to this 30-something Mom.

It doesn't actually belong to Evyn, yet.  If she shows she can follow the rules and take care of it, eventually it will become hers.   So far, so good!  And, despite Evyn breaking all the guidelines of good photography (like, center, focus, and stand still) she's gotten some decent shots.

In fact, I already like this camera better than my (more expensive) G7, simply because the D10 takes GREAT no-flash shots in low-light situations, like these toad-at-dusk pictures, below:

Of course, it didn't take us long to test out the waterproof capabilities.  First, the fish tank:

Then, the bath tub:

Not surprisingly,  the always-goofy Andrew is a favorite test-photo subject:

Evyn's pictures

Evyn has a $3 pocket camera that takes really lousy pictures.

She took it with her on her trip to Grandma & Grandpa B's cabin Easter weekend. She brought home photos of toys, markers, furniture, and other shots that make you wonder, "why did she take a picture of THAT?"

She did manage to take a few snaps of actual people:
