a week at the beach

Saturday July 4th we scooped the kids out of their beds before dawn and hit the road. Destination: Corolla, NC - a week at the beach, M4 and the C. family.

We'd anticipated holiday traffic and frequent nursing stops to make for a long drive, but were pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Traffic wasn't bad (leaving at 3:53 am helped), and Andrew slept most of the way, so we made great time- 7 1/2 hours from our house to the Second Wind- including half an hour of pit stops. Evyn, meanwhile, only slept for about 20 minutes of the trip. I expected her to crash mid-day but she managed to chug through until bedtime!

We came home with 350+ digital pictures, so I'll post them as I sort through them. Here are photos from our first day - July 4th:

driving through Virginia

lunch at Bad Beans in Corolla while we waited for the C's to arrive

playground at Timbuck II made our wait a pleasant one

our bedroom - I was glad I brought our cosleeper bed for Andrew
instead of using the Pack n Play that was supplied with the house

Evyn's bedroom

living room/dining room/kitchen on the upper level, beside our bedroom

sunroom beside the dining area served as Larry's away-from-home office

the pool! Andrew's first swim

Elisabeth checking out the outdoor shower. It had warm water!

The house also had a game room, spare bedroom, and full bath on the lower level but apparently I neglected to take photos of it.
