Update: It's a...

....baby! Silly, did you think we would cave and find out the gender? Nope, it's going to be a surprise. Though, I could swear I saw three lines (which would mean girl) but the doctor was moving quickly, so who knows!

It was great to see the baby again. S/he was wide awake (I drank a cup of orange juice on the way to the hospital, to be sure!) and very active. We had declined amnio, quad screening, and other tests that would show markers for concerns like Downs, but all measurements were right on target, nothing that would indicate any potential problems. His/her heart rate was 148 bpm, and weighing in at 300 grams, or 10 ounces. The baby is 19 weeks old today, and should be about 6 inches long from head to rump.

Other than the great news that the baby is doing well, the appointment was a bit of a disappointment. In fact, I am starting to think I am the un-luckiest Mom when it comes to prenatal care! The appointment started 15 minutes late. Dr. Neubert didn't do any of the routine checkup stuff (fundal length measurement, weight), just rushed us in and out of the exam room. The two photos he gave us were a letdown, too.... we have the most beautiful, clear pictures of Evyn at roughly the same stage, but this time the Doctor went about getting his measurements and spent no time letting us just look. In fact, he seemed relieved when we told him that we weren't interested in learning the gender, and cut the exam short.

But, we're healthy. And in 147 days, give or take, we'll get to take lots of great pictures of our own :)

Yay! I've been refreshing my screen this afternoon...what an exciting life I lead! :) Glad everything went well in terms of seeing everything is healthy. And just an encouragement that it is not too late to find a provider you are happy and comfortable with and who will really take the time for all questions and share in the joy of the experience. I've heard lots of good things from friends who delivered at Womens & Babies...not sure which practices, though. Good luck! Guess we're 3 weeks apart....and man, I don't know how you don't find out the gender now! I would never be able to wait til the end!!

I like when the gender is a surprise!
We only found out with the last one - and only because my sister was pg at the same time - so we told my mum at Christmas together that she was having a granddaughter and a grandson in a few months (my niece was born just 5 weeks before my son).
Sorry you didn't get a clear picture. 19 weeks already - wow, you're just about halfway through! How nice to have a baby just when it's starting to warm up again :)

Congrats on a healthy baby :) I knew you wouldn't change your mind on finding out the gender! You can't trick me...lol :oP

After four surprises, I was happy to find out the last two, but I understand the fun of the surprise too!

You know, if it is possible insurance wise to change doctors, do it! There is nothing worse than not having a good relationship with the person who you have to see so often in 9 months. There has got to be someone out there who is a good match for you.

I am so glad to hear and see that the little one is doing wonderfully. I was thinking Gretchen goes wonderfully with Evyn. Just saying :).

So excited for you! I am so happy for you and your family...and I cannot wait to hear and see pictures of that little one's arrival!!
