Baltimore 2011 - days 1 & 2

A couple weeks ago we took a much-anticipated trip to Baltimore's Inner Harbor - something we try to do every year.  Evyn had a half day of school, so as soon as she came home we hit the road- getting to the hotel just before dinner. We stay at the same place each year - the Hampton Inner Harbor.  It's become one of Evyn's favorite traditions.  There is a small indoor pool that, apparently, nobody but us uses- a real treat for the kids!  So after arriving, unpacking, and grabbing some sandwiches in lieu of dinner, we went for a swim. 

Getting the kids to sleep that night was a challenge!  They opted to share the sofa-bed, but when I got up around 1am both kids were snoozing on the floor.  I later learned that they were "camping" - ??  Crazy kids.

Day 2 - we all slept in!  After raiding the breakfast buffet we walked to the aquarium.  Evyn loved it, as usual.  Andrew?  Not so much.  In fact, by the time we got to the best part - the spiral walk around the round tanks full of sharks and other curiosities- he was crying and asking to leave.  Always interesting with this little guy!  Although, he did enjoy the 'rainforest' on the top level, particularly the turtles.

By the time we finished at the aquarium and grabbed some lunch, Andrew was tired, with a capital T.  The plan was to take him back to the room for a nap, while Evyn & Scott did a little shopping.

Almost two l.o.n.g., tearful hours later he did finally conk out - like this:

Abram K. Hartsough, Jr.

Abram K. Hartsough, Jr., 61, of Ephrata, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2011.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Abram K. “Ken” and Kathryn E. Rittenhouse Hartsough of Lancaster.

Abram had been employed for many years at Alcoa and Precision Products. He was a 1968 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and a member of Faith Covenant Church in Ephrata. Abram enjoyed spending time with his family, anything with the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, riding motorcycles and following the Dallas Cowboys.

Surviving besides his parents are three daughters, Stephanie A. Hartsough of Lewisville, TX, Sarah Cranford of Ronks, and Katherine E. Hartsough of Ephrata; a son Adam K. Hartsough of Ephrata; three grandchildren; a sister Linda wife of Guy Benner of Lancaster, and three brothers, Donald husband of Donna Hartsough of Lancaster, David husband of Leslie Hartsough of Lancaster, and Richard husband of Melinda Hartsough of Mountville.



A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 7:30 PM at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Timothy Heritage officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6:30 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

big boy bed (and more)

Over the summer we started talking about looking for a "big boy bed" for Andrew.  He'd been sleeping in the toddler bed that Evyn used up until about age 4.  She was always happy and cozy in it,  but somehow, Andrew seemed way too big for it.  Partly because he was falling out of bed on a regular basis.  So maybe he just needed more room to roll.

Scott's grandmother recently moved out of her apartment and into an assisted living facility, and we were able to keep Grandma & Grandpa's old bedroom furniture.  Evyn moved up to a full size bed, and got a 'new' dresser and nightstand to match.  Which left Evyn's old bed- a twin- for Andrew to move into.  Plus he got a dresser from Grandma's set.

Andrew's bed now has a skirt (hurray, Pottery Barn outlet clearance racks!) which isn't shown in the picture, but you get the idea.  I haven't decided what to get to put in the spot where his changing table currently is (and I'd love to get rid of it!  Here's hoping Andrew will decide to start doing #2 in the potty SOON!).  A table?  A small chair?

I'm trying to convince Evyn to let me get her a new quilt, but she loves her old one, so it stays for now, even though it's undersized.

Both kids took about two weeks to adjust, but love their beds now.  Andrew often shows me how much he's grown- "look at me, I'm bigger and bigger!" - and enjoys showing off his "big boy bed" any time someone comes for a visit.
